This page I will share my thought and experiences, whether it be in house breaking, grooming ,or anything else that might come to mine. I will try to answer common question I'm asked on a regular basis .
Why Red?
Most of my life with standard poodles I have had black, Silver ,or white When I Lost my last black boy he was one I never thought I would be able to replace ,he made people smile every where he went, and that was every where I went .I worked different jobs in his life time and it seemed that I was able to take him with me to most .He liked going riding horses, but he loved to go rope he thought his place was in the catch pen. he would always bring the cattle back and load them in the shoot. he was funny to watch him around cowboys. I really think it was just the hat , he associated them with cows .I could be driving down the rode and he would spot a cowboy hat and take a double take like some 16 year old girl would do.When he died I started looking for a dog to replace him.I looked and found some thing that I was not expecting . something I never seen before The red standard poodle ..I began my search and new I found something that would be totally different than what I had but also the same breed that I had come to love.It took me about a year to fine what I was looking for I wanted a very large standard poodle and I wanted red I found a few dark red standard poodles but they were only going to get around 23 inches and that is small for a boy . I wanted what some people call the royal standard poodle 28 29 inches plus...I finely found a standard poodle breeder in Oregon He was large and was from a Strong red line but was a little lighter than I had my heart set on but I quickly fell in love with this giant size poodle that was yet so very gentle and calm I didn't know it but he was going to be a very important asset to me . I became dependent on him to rise from a chair or some times even to get out of bed as my health deteriorated he was a big part of keeping me mobile and being able to live a independent life. Although I'm still disabled I Am doing better and placed him in a loving home where he would be the only standard poodle and extra attention would be pay to him it was very tough to let him go but it would have been tougher trying to keep two males breeders separated and giving both the attention they both deserved retiring him from my breeding program allowed him to be the only standard in the house and king of the castle.
What lines are the darkest?
There are different shades of red and most do fade some ,over time. Some red are not red at all just apricot and although its up to the breeder to put what color that most suits the puppy on the puppy registration application lot of times what started off as a red may in fact be a dark apricot, this has to do with the color of the ancestors of the dogs your breeding . There are different red standard poodle lines such as Torbec ,Majestic Shangri-La, Leatherstockings and Palmares to name a few As breeders of the Irish Setter red there is not one specific line that throws it. It helps to breed red to red and throw in some black every fourth generation to help keep the points dark and also in some cases broaden the gene pull.
about shipping
whether a pup needs to go to California,New York ,Florida maybe even Phoenix Arizona in the summer time. Air travel can be possible with a little creative planning .Air travel can be less stressful on the pup than getting in a vehicle and driving for hrs The movement of the auto or plane can cause motion sickness so it is a no brainier that flying is indeed the way to go. If your not that far away from your destination flying may not be feasible ,in many cases I have met people half way . If your still very uncomfortable about shipping , having your new baby in the air all by its self ,and there's no way to get from point to point ,there is ground shipping ,just remember your baby could be traveling for three or four day .Nearly all of my personal dog that I have purchased in the last thirty years have came in on a plane and as of today I have never had any bad experience.shipping or receiving. The airlines have regulation set to protect animals in flight therefor making it very safe .
